Step 2 – ABAQUS Product Installation

1. Mounted ISO or inserted DVD.
2. Launched setup.exe → Administrator rights.
3. Selected:
   • ✅ ABAQUS CAE
   • ✅ ABAQUS/Standard
   • ✅ ABAQUS/Explicit
   • ✅ ABAQUS/Viewer
   • ✅ Documentation (optional, local install)
4. Destination folder: C:\SIMULIA\Abaqus\6.14-5
5. Licensing step:
   • Chose “License Server”.
   • Entered: 27011@[PC-NAME] (or [server_ip] for network license).
6. Completed installation (~15–20 minutes).

Troubleshooting (brief)

• License checkout failures: check lmgrd, daemon logs, hostname/IP mismatch, port blocking, expired licenses.
• GUI won't start: check DISPLAY (Linux/X11), graphics drivers, Java issues.
• Fortran subroutine compile errors: ensure compatible compiler version and environment variables are set (IFORTROOT, PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH).
• Solver crashes: check abaqus.rpt, .sta, and .msg files for errors; run with increased memory or simplified model to isolate.

Step 1: Install the License Manager

The most common reason Abaqus fails to start is an issue with the licensing. You must install the license manager before the main software.

1. Navigate to your installation source (ISO or folder).
2. Locate the license manager setup (often found in a folder named License or similar). Run the setup file as Administrator.
3. During the installation, you will be asked to point to a license file (usually a .lic or .dat file).
   • Note: If you are a student, this file is provided by your university IT department or the software vendor. You typically need to edit this file to replace the hostname this_host with your actual computer name.
4. The installer will create a service (usually called SIMULIA License Server or Abaqus LM).
5. Once installed, verify that the license server status is "UP". You can usually check this via the LMTOOLS utility included in the installation.
