Part 2: Pre-Requisites for Downloading EPLAN Updates
You cannot simply search Google for "free EPLAN update." EPLAN protects its intellectual property strictly. To perform a legitimate EPLAN download UPD, you must meet the following requirements: Mastering EPLAN Updates: Your Guide to Downloading and
- Active Maintenance Contract (Update Service Contract): Only users with an active Software Maintenance Agreement (often called "Update Service") are entitled to download updates. This is typically valid for 12 months after purchase and can be renewed annually.
- Registered EPLAN Portal Account: You need a personal account on the official EPLAN Software & Service Portal (formerly EPLAN Download Manager).
- Assigned License: Your EPLAN license (dongle or soft licensing) must be registered to your portal account. Updates are tied to the license generation.
- Base Version Installed: Most UPDs require a specific base version. For instance, UPD3 for EPLAN 2024 requires EPLAN 2024 SP1 already installed. You cannot apply an UPD to EPLAN 2023.
Before you start — checklist
- Backup projects and custom data (project files, macros, user parts, and custom parts databases).
- Confirm EPLAN version: UPD files are version-specific. Note your exact EPLAN product and version (e.g., EPLAN Platform 2022.2 or EPLAN Electric P8 2.9).
- Administrative rights on the machine.
- Close EPLAN applications and related services before installing.
- Read release notes for the UPD to understand fixes and any required prerequisites.
Step 3: Navigate to the Download Section
Once logged in:
- Click on "My EPLAN" or "Downloads".
- Select "Updates & Service Packs" from the dropdown menu.
- Filter by your product: e.g., "EPLAN Platform 2024" or "EPLAN Electric P8 2.9".
Step 4: Identify the Correct UPD
You will see a list labeled:
EPLAN Platform 2024 SP1 Update 1 (UPD1)
EPLAN Platform 2024 SP1 Update 2 (UPD2)
- etc.
Critical: Check the release date and read the accompanying Release Notes (usually a PDF or HTML link). The release notes list exactly which bugs are fixed. Also, verify the file size—UPDs range from 100 MB to over 1 GB. Part 2: Pre-Requisites for Downloading EPLAN Updates You
1. Centralize the Download
Do not let each engineer download the same 500 MB UPD individually. Designate one admin machine to download the UPD once. Then place it on a secure network share (read-only for users).
Step 5 — Post-install checks
- Launch EPLAN and verify the version reflects the applied update.
- Open a couple of representative projects to ensure they load correctly.
- Check custom parts, macros, and add-ins for compatibility.
- If your environment uses shared project databases, ensure any required migration steps were applied and perform a small-scale test before allowing users back in.
