Introduction

The world of video game emulation has grown significantly over the years, offering gamers and enthusiasts the opportunity to play classic games on modern devices. One of the emulators that has garnered attention within this community is FinalBurner Alpha (FBA). FBA is designed to emulate arcade games, providing users with a way to enjoy a wide range of classic arcade titles on their computers.

Step 5 – Verify ROMs (audit)

Use ROMVault, Clrmamepro, or RomCenter with the provided DAT file.

Command line with Clrmamepro:

  1. Load DAT
  2. Set ROM path
  3. Run "Audit" → shows missing/unneeded files

The "better" set should audit 100% green.

Step 2: The BIOS Folder (Crucial)

The number one mistake users make is dumping all ROMs into one folder without BIOS. For v029729 to work "better," you must have:

  • neogeo.zip (Size: 1.6MB – specific to v029729, not older)
  • cpzn1.zip & cpzn2.zip (CPS Changer BIOS)
  • decocass.zip
  • pgm.zip (PolyGame Master)

Note: Using an older neogeo.zip will cause every Neo Geo game to crash on boot. The "better" set includes the correct BIOS checksum.

5. What Makes This Set "Better" Than Standard?

  • Unlicensed games (Gamtec, etc.)

Step 3 – Choose your emulator folder structure

Audio Configuration

Older sets had popping audio on YM2610 chip (Neo Geo). V029729 fixes this. Set:

  • Sample Rate: 48000Hz (Not 44100).
  • Interpolation: Cubic or Sinc (Avoid "Linear" – it ruins bass frequencies).

7. Optimizing Performance

  • Enable hard GPU sync (RetroArch) – reduces input lag.
  • Use runahead (1-2 frames) for fighting games.
  • Disable bilinear filtering for sharp pixels.
  • Set region to Japan for some games (better sound/difficulty).

For Raspberry Pi / low-end PC:

  • Use FBNeo (not MAME).
  • Disable bezels/overlays.
  • Use 480p output.
