A. Official ISP Releases

These are stable but often locked. They contain specific VLAN configurations, Wi-Fi SSIDs, and admin passwords hardcoded by the provider (e.g., Telkom, Movistar, Personal).

  • Pros: Stable, optimized for the specific ISP’s network.
  • Cons: Locked menus, inability to change VoIP or WAN settings easily.

Part 7: The Future – Alternative Firmwares and OpenWRT

The ZTE F609 is not officially supported by OpenWRT due to its proprietary Realtek or RTL960x series chipset. However, a community project called "OpenOMCI" has developed custom bootloaders for some XPON sticks. For the F609, you are largely limited to: Firmware Zte F609 Xpon

  • Stock ZTE firmware (most stable).
  • ISP-modded firmware (feature-limited but reliable).
  • Unlocked generic firmware (removes ISP locks but may void warranty).

A. WAN & Connectivity

  • XPON Mode: Auto-adaptive GPON/EPON.
  • WAN Interface: 1x GE (Gigabit Ethernet) + 3x FE (Fast Ethernet), 1x POTS (VoIP), 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n).
  • Connection Types: PPPoE, Dynamic IP (DHCP), Static IP, Bridge Mode.
  • VLAN Support: 802.1Q VLAN tagging for Internet, VoIP, IPTV.
  • Dual Stack: IPv4 / IPv6 support.

B. "Universal" or Unlocked Firmware

These are modified stock firmware images. They often feature a standard ZTE interface without the ISP’s logo and—most importantly—expose the Super Admin account. Pros: Stable, optimized for the specific ISP’s network

  • Common Login: admin / admin or ZXDSL / ZXDSL.
  • Benefit: Allows full access to change ONU passwords, VLANs, and Wi-Fi power settings.
