What it is

A GLPI registration key is a unique token used to register and activate a GLPI instance (IT asset & service management software) with optional paid services or remote update/management features.
It links a specific GLPI installation to a subscription, support contract, or the GLPI Network services (depending on vendor offerings).

6. Security Considerations

While the registration key provides basic security, it has limitations:

Not encrypted end-to-end: Use HTTPS (TLS) between agent and server; otherwise, the key is sent in plaintext.
Shared secret risk: If one key is used for many agents and compromised, all agents are at risk.
No mutual TLS (by default): The server trusts any agent presenting a valid key.

Recommendations:

Generate unique keys per department or location.
Rotate keys periodically (e.g., annually).
Combine with firewall rules to restrict agent IP ranges.
