🔧 What You Need
- Windows (7/10/11) – GUI works best here
- A video URL containing an M3U8 manifest
- Basic understanding of what M3U8 is (adaptive streaming format)
Method 1: Browser Inspection (Chrome/Edge/Firefox)
- Play the video on the target website.
- Right-click anywhere on the page -> Inspect (or press F12).
- Go to the Network tab.
- In the filter box, type
m3u8. - Refresh the page or scrub the video timeline.
- A file will appear (e.g.,
stream_720p.m3u8). - Right-click that file -> Copy -> Copy link address.
Example GUI layout (sections)
- Top bar: Menu (File, Settings, Tools), Add URL, Start/Stop, Queue
- Left pane: Download queue with status, file size, ETA
- Right pane: Stream details (variants, audio/subs), output options
- Bottom: Log console, speed graph, error messages

Before understanding the GUI, you must understand the engine. nm3u8dlre (often stylized as N_m3u8DL-RE) is a cross-platform, open-source tool designed to download and decrypt M3U8 video streams.
