Part 1: The Foundations of a Compelling Romance
Part 3: Character Design for Romance
Part 10: Checklist Before Finalizing Your Romantic Storyline
- [ ] Each character has a goal independent of the romance.
- [ ] The central obstacle is credible and not solved by a single conversation.
- [ ] There are at least three “small moments” of growing intimacy before any big declaration.
- [ ] The romance changes both characters (even subtly).
- [ ] If the romance were removed, the plot still works (but feels emptier).
- [ ] The ending matches your genre’s emotional contract (HEA, HFN, tragic, or open).
- [ ] You can answer: Why these two, and why now?
7. Insta-Love (Use with Caution)
- Works best in: Short-form fiction, fairy tale retellings, or as a deliberate parody.
- Risk: Feels unearned. To fix, add immediate external stakes that force them to prove their devotion quickly.
2. Friends to Lovers
- Core conflict: Fear of ruining the friendship.
- Turning point: A realization that romantic feelings have always been there.
- Variation: One falls first, the other follows later.
