On a Modded Nintendo Switch (Atmosphère CFW): ✨ What’s New in Update 1

  1. Use a payload injector (TegraRcmGUI on PC) to boot into Hekate or Atmosphère.
  2. Install Goldleaf or Tinfoil on your Switch.
  3. Copy the XCI file to your SD card or use USB install via NS-USBloader.
  4. In Tinfoil, navigate to "File Browser" → install the base XCI.
  5. Install the DLC NSP files.
  6. Install the Update 1.3.2 NSP last (overwrites older files).
  7. Reboot to the Switch home menu – the game icon should show version 1.3.2 at the top.

On Yuzu or Ryujinx Emulator (PC):

  1. Open the emulator and ensure your Prod.keys are up to date (firmware 13.0.0+ recommended).
  2. Go to “File” → “Install Files to NAND”.
  3. Add the base game XCI. The emulator will process it.
  4. Then install the Update 1.3.2 NSP and the DLC NSPs (order doesn’t matter as long as the update is present).
  5. Right-click the game in your library → Properties → Add-ons. Ensure DLC and update are checked “On”.
  6. Launch the game.

Troubleshooting Common Errors:

  • Error 2002-0001 (Switch): Missing or outdated Sigpatches. Download the latest Sigpatches for your CFW version.
  • Black screen after logo (Yuzu): You may need to change graphics API from Vulkan to OpenGL (or vice versa) or disable “Async Shaders”.
  • DLC not showing: Verify the region of the DLC matches the base game Pokémon Shield (e.g., US base requires US DLC).

What is an NSP File?

An NSP stands for "Nintendo Submission Package." This is the format used for digital titles downloaded directly from the Nintendo eShop.

  • How it works: NSP files must be "installed" to the Switch’s internal memory or SD card (or emulator’s virtual NAND).
  • Best for: Installing updates and DLC. While base games can be in XCI format, updates (like v1.3.2) and expansion passes are almost always distributed as NSP files due to the way Nintendo packages digital patches.
  • File size: Slightly smaller than XCI due to different packaging methods.

Best Practices

  • Always install updates and DLC for the same region title ID.
  • Keep prod.keys and titlekeys up to date and secure.
  • Use EmuMMC for online play to minimize ban risk.
  • Keep a verified backup of your save and NAND before making changes.
  • Apply updates in order: base game → update → DLC.

Preconditions & Warnings

  • Legal: Only install backups/NSP/XCI for games you legally own. Distributing or downloading copyrighted game files is illegal in many jurisdictions.
  • Homebrew risks: Modifying firmware or using unsigned code can brick a console, cause bans, or void warranties.
  • Ensure you have the latest prod.keys and titlekeys for any encrypted packages you need to work with.
  • Backup NAND and game saves before making changes.
