What’s Next? The Road to Update 10

Update 9 lays the foundation for the narrative. We’ve built the stage, set the lights, and placed the actors. For Update 10, we are focusing on the Main Questline: The Awakening.

We’ve been tight-lipped about the story, but soon you’ll start hearing voices from the obelisks. The lore of Selara—the question of who built this world and why it is decaying—will begin to unravel.

We are aiming for a release of Update 10 in roughly six to eight weeks, but as always, we won’t ship it until it’s ready. Ignore your old build

Tips for Returning Players

If you are jumping into Selara for the first time since Update 4 or 5, here is how to survive Update 9:

  1. Ignore your old build. Critical strike chance has been removed from gear. It is now a skill-based mechanic (hitting an enemy from behind while sliding).
  2. Farm the first room of the Sunken Windmill. The very first pressure valve respawns infinitely. You can farm Chrono-Dust for 30 minutes to buy the mid-tier Aether-Diver gear immediately.
  3. Turn off cross-play for PvP. PC players using the new parry-cancel with a mouse have a 0.2-second advantage over controller users.
  4. Save your Legacy Schematics. Do not trade them for the "Rusty Repeater" (a common trap). Wait two weeks for the hidden vendor to appear in the dry-dock of the Windmill.

Dynamic Weather: The Sky is Not Just a Texture

Early on, we made a mistake with weather. Rain was a visual overlay. Fog was a distance blur. In Update 9, weather is a gameplay mechanic.

We’ve implemented a full volumetric cloud system tied directly to the game's magic system. Selara is a world of unstable elemental energy, and the sky reflects that.

We want you to look at the horizon and plan your day around the sky.

5. If Something Breaks: Rollback & Recovery

  1. Temporary rollback – Use “Session snapshot” (File → Restore previous session → choose pre‑Update 9).
  2. Export data – Before any major change: Projects → Export → JSON (includes all metadata).
  3. Report bug – Use ? key → “Report Update 9 issue” → auto‑attaches logs.

Selara - Update 9 - The Breath of the World

Posted by: Lead Developer Date: October 26, 2023 Mood: Cautiously Optimistic

It’s hard to believe that the last time I sat down to write one of these, we were still wrestling with the core rendering engine. Update 8 felt like a milestone because we proved the game worked. Update 9, however, is the milestone where we proved the game lives.

If you’ve been following the development roadmap, you know we’ve been teasing "The Breath of the World" for a while now. Today, I want to pull back the curtain on exactly what that means, talk about the new dynamic weather systems, the overhaul to the AI ecology, and give you a first look at the newly unlocked region: The Sunken Spire.
