Abstract
The Telugu cultural corpus of Dengu Kathalu (short folk tales) and Bommalu (traditional puppets/dolls) constitutes a vital intangible heritage for the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana region. In 2022 a community‑driven project digitised a 3 GB ZIP archive containing scanned manuscripts, high‑resolution photographs of Bommalu and associated metadata. The archive soon exhibited severe corruption: broken file‑headers, mismatched CRC checks, and lost directory structures, rendering it unusable for scholars and curators. This paper presents a comprehensive workflow for (i) diagnosing zip‑level failures, (ii) applying forensic reconstruction techniques, and (iii) delivering a verified, openly‑accessible repository that respects both technical integrity and cultural context. We evaluate the restored archive against original source material, quantify data recovery (97 % of files restored, 3 % irrecoverable), and discuss the implications for digital heritage preservation, community participation, and future‑proofing of folk‑art collections.
