Why v2004 Was a Big Deal

The 2004 release (v2004) introduced:

1. Web export – Timetables could be published to intranets (a novelty in 2004).
2. Improved constraint engine – Fewer "impossible schedule" errors.
3. Native Windows XP look – No more 16-bit compatibility layers.

The catch? Licensing was brutal. ASC used a hardware-locked license system combined with online activation (advanced for 2004). A single license cost hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars. Schools could afford it; individual teachers learning the software could not.
